Jaisalmer Honeymoon Guide: Romantic Things to Do and a Night on the Dunes

Golden forts by day, sunset dunes and a sky full of stars by night: how to plan a romantic Jaisalmer honeymoon.

Jaisalmer is one of the most romantic places in Rajasthan for a honeymoon. The Golden City gives you a living fort, quiet lakes and carved sandstone havelis by day, and the Thar Desert gives you sunsets over the dunes, folk music by a bonfire and a sky full of stars by night. It feels far away from everyday life, which is exactly what most couples want after a wedding.

This guide covers the best time for a Jaisalmer honeymoon, the most romantic things to do, a simple 3-day plan and what to expect from a private honeymoon desert camp.

Why Choose Jaisalmer for Your Honeymoon?

  • Something different. Beaches and hill stations are the usual honeymoon picks. A desert honeymoon gives you photos and memories that feel unique.
  • Privacy in the desert. Away from the city, the dunes are calm and open. A private camel ride or a dinner table on the sand feels like it was made just for the two of you.
  • Easy to combine. Jaisalmer fits neatly into a wider Rajasthan trip with Jodhpur or Jaipur, or works as a short getaway on its own.
  • Great value. You can enjoy a premium desert stay and heritage sightseeing without the cost of many international honeymoon spots.

Best Time for a Honeymoon in Jaisalmer

The best time for a honeymoon in Jaisalmer is October to March. Days are pleasant for sightseeing, and evenings in the desert are cool and comfortable for bonfires and stargazing. December and January nights can get cold, so pack warm layers.

  • October to November: warm days, comfortable nights and fewer crowds than peak season.
  • December to February: peak season, with cool, clear weather. Book early around Christmas and New Year.
  • March: warmer days but still pleasant evenings.
  • April to September: very hot, and best avoided unless you are happy with short outdoor time.

Romantic Things to Do in Jaisalmer

1. Watch the sunset on the Sam Sand Dunes

This is the moment most couples remember. Ride out into the dunes in the late afternoon, find a quiet ridge and watch the sand turn gold, then orange, then pink as the sun goes down. Not sure which dunes to choose? Read Sam vs Khuri Sand Dunes.

2. Take a private camel safari for two

A camel ride is slow and peaceful, which makes it perfect for couples. On a private safari you are not grouped with other travellers, so you can stop for photos whenever you like. If you prefer more excitement, a jeep ride over the dunes is a fun add-on. Compare both in Camel Safari vs Jeep Safari.

3. Enjoy a candlelit dinner under the stars

There is something special about dinner in the open desert. A private table, soft lights and a Rajasthani meal under a dark sky makes for an unforgettable evening.

4. Go stargazing

With very little light pollution, the desert night sky is spectacular on clear nights. Lie back on the sand and look for shooting stars together. Our stargazing in Jaisalmer guide explains the best nights and tips.

5. Watch a Rajasthani folk dance by the bonfire

Evenings at the camp come alive with folk music and dance around the fire. It's a warm, joyful way to experience local culture together. Find out more in Folk Dance at a Jaisalmer Desert Camp.

6. Explore Jaisalmer Fort hand in hand

Jaisalmer Fort is one of the few living forts in the world, with homes, shops and cafes inside its golden walls. Walk the narrow lanes, then find a rooftop cafe for a view over the city.

7. A quiet morning at Gadisar Lake

Gadisar Lake is calm and beautiful in the early morning, with stone ghats and small temples along the water. Boat rides are usually available, which couples love.

8. Admire the havelis

Patwon ki Haveli and other old mansions are famous for their fine stone carving. They make a lovely backdrop for couple photos.

9. Visit Kuldhara at golden hour

The abandoned village of Kuldhara has a haunting, quiet beauty that photographs well in soft evening light. Plan your visit with our Kuldhara Village guide.

A Simple 3-Day Jaisalmer Honeymoon Plan

Day 1: Arrive and explore the Golden City

Check in, rest, then spend the afternoon at Jaisalmer Fort and the havelis. End the day with sunset views from a rooftop cafe.

Day 2: Into the desert

Enjoy a slow morning at Gadisar Lake. In the afternoon, head to the dunes, stopping at Kuldhara on the way if you like. Take a private camel safari at sunset, then enjoy the cultural evening, a romantic dinner and stargazing. Stay the night at the desert camp.

Day 3: Sunrise and departure

Wake up early for sunrise over the dunes, enjoy breakfast at the camp and head back to Jaisalmer.

Honeymoon Tips for Jaisalmer

  • Book early in peak season. December to February fills up quickly, especially around New Year.
  • Pack layers. Desert nights get cold in winter, even after a warm day. Our packing checklist has the details.
  • Plan your photos. Sunset and sunrise give the best light on the dunes. Bring a light scarf or dupatta for beautiful desert shots.
  • Tell us about surprises in advance. If you want a cake, decorations or a special message, let us know when you book.
  • Keep one slow day. A honeymoon is about time together, so don't pack every hour with sightseeing.
